The CB-Meter Course
Glossary

Ability Meter A popular British meter.
Assessment Going through a list of phrases or questions to note which ones produce a meter reaction.
Bio-feedback Various methods of monitoring the bodily or mental state in terms of resistance, temperature, blood pressure, or otherwise. Can provide an indicator of self-improving practices.
Blowdown A sudden drop in the range so that the range knob must be adjusted.
Can Squeeze A slight gradual grip of the can used to adjust the sensitivity setting.
Cans The hand-held electrodes we use.
CB-Meter Clearing Bio-feedback meter.
Charge Electrical potential in the mind that can get discharged by examining it.
Clean Needle A slow unaffected motion of the needle.
Clearing A series of methods of examining and relieving the contents of the mind. An area of mental resistance is brought up and looked at until an increased understanding of it is achieved.
Clearing Bio-feedback Meter The name we use for the meter. Also the name of the Australian Alphametrics meter.
Client The person holding the cans.
Coach A person helping another master an exercise.
Dating Finding a hidden date on the meter.
Detached Needle A needle going back and forth very evenly and robotically, 1-2 inches every second or so.
Dirty Needle A jerky irregular motion of the needle.
Drop Another way of saying fall.
E-Meter Electropsychometer. The Scientology version of a meter.
Electrode Plug The plug that connects the wires to the meter.
Electrodes Any of several types of connection to the client's skin. Usually cans, or more rarely foot-plates.
Fall The encompassing term for any read going to the right on the dial. Also, more specifically, for a read that is between 3/4 and 1 3/4 inch.
False Range An incorrect setting of the range because of inadequate contact with the electrodes.
Floating Needle A needle moving slowly and rhythmically back and forth in an unaffected manner.
Footplates An alternative type of electrodes the client can place his bare feet on.
Free Needle Another name for a floating needle.
Galvanic Skin Response Meter Another word for a meter.
GSR Galvanic Skin Response.
High Range Over 3.5 on the range scale.
In-Range Between 2.0 and 3.5 on the range scale.
Inherent Needle Action What the needle is doing without any questions being asked.
Instant Reaction A sudden change in the characteristics of the needle movement.
Instant Read A fall occurring exactly at the end of a major concept spoken or thought.
Leads The wires connecting the meter with the cans.
Long Fall A read over 1 3/4 inch.
Long Fall Blowdown A long fall that stays over to the right so that the range must be adjusted.
Low Range Under 2.0 on the range scale.
Major Concept A complete idea that is thought or expressed.
Mental Mass Stuff in the mind that has a resistance to it.
Meter A generic term for any of the common types of clearing bio-feedback meters.
Needle The indicator for minute changes in resistance.
Needle Action What the needle is doing.
Needle Dial The needle dial has markings to show sizes of reads, a starting position called 'set', and a test area used to check battery charge.
Nul No needle reaction on a question.
Polygraph A lie-detector. Uses skin resistance as one of its measurements.
Potentiometer A variable resistor. The range knob is connected to a potentiometer. A pot for short.
Practitioner The person operating the meter.
Psycho-Galvanometer An name used for early types of meters.
Range The setting of the gross level of resistance. Provides an indicator of the presence of mental mass.
Range Action The action and amount of down movement of the range knob. A good indicator.
Range Counter A counter that is adding up the downward motion of the range.
Range Dial The possible settings of the range, numbered roughly between 0.5 and 6.5.
Range Knob The knob that is used for adjusting the range.
Reaction A sudden change in action of the needle.
Read A fall of any size.
Resistance The characteristic and degree of hindering the flow of electricity.
Resistor An electronic component hindering the flow of electricity at a certain rate.
Rise A motion to the left of the needle.
Rock Slam A crazy slashing back and forth of the needle.
Sensitivity A setting of the magnitude of needle movements. A higher setting gives bigger reactions. The correct sensitivity varies from client to client and from time to time.
Set The agreed-upon starting position on the needle dial.
Small Fall A read that is 1/4 to 3/4 inch.
Stage Four An old name for a detached needle.
Steering Leading the client by indicating "that ... that .." whenever a particular reaction appears.
Stop A brief halt in the motion of the needle.
Stuck An unmoving needle.
TA Short for Tone Arm. Same as Range.
