CHECKSHEET

     METER COURSE

The course is aimed at teaching student auditors the basic skills of using a Meter. As many different designs of Meters exist some of the drills may have to be modified by the manual of the make of Meter used. The basic skills of reading the needle and TA and the significance of Meter reactions are however not dependant on brand. These drills are thus essential to results in auditing.

Prerequisites: Study Manual done.
(Any of: Clearbird's Study Manual, Student Hat or Basic Study Manual of Applied Scholastics).

The student is to apply the Study technology throughout this course.

I. METER THEORY

How the Meter Works

1. Place the Meter you are going to use in front of you and study the theory with the Meter within reach._________

2. Look up in an appropriate dictionary,
encyclopedia or basic physics book:
a) Electrical resistance______
b) Ohms_______

Study: "How the Meter Works" (this is done in sections as listed below).

3. Study the photo of the Clarity Meter and compare it to your Meter.______

4. Demo: Find the needle and Tone Arm and Tone Arm Counter on your Meter.

5. Demo: Find the the Needle Dial and find the Set Position on that dial______

6. Study to "What is a Read?" _________

7. Touch the TA on your Meter. Move it up and down. Demo what of this movement is called TA Action and what is not.__________

8. Study  "What is a Read?"
(to "What is an Instant Read?")____________

9. Demo: Using a pencil for needle, demo:
a) A Fall of different sizes_________
b) A Dirty Needle_________

10. Demo: Using a pencil for needle, demo:
a) How the Meter says "Yes"__________
b) How the Meter says "No"__________

11. Study "What is an Instant Read?"
(to "The Floating Needle")_________

12. Demo: Using a pencil for needle, demo:
a) A Reading Item on a question asked_________
b) A Reading Item of a pc statement__________

13. Study "The Floating Needle"_________

14. Demo: Using a pencil for needle, demo:
A Floating Needle_________

15. Demo: Demo what happens in the pc's bank when an F/N occurs__________

16. Study: "The False Read"__________

17. Demo: Demo what happens in the pc's bank when an False Read occurs__________

18. Study: "Completing Cycles of Action"_________

19. Demo: How the Meter helps the auditor complete cycles of action on a case________

Meter Basics

Study: "Meter Basics" (this is done in sections as listed below).

20. Study: "Meter Basics" ( to "The Tone Arm")_________

21. Demo: Point to your Meter's Needle,
Tone Arm and Sensitivity knob and work
them a little. The Needle is worked by
moving the TA gently while the Meter is turned on.__________

22. Study: Section "The Tone Arm" (to "TA Action")_________

23. Demo: "The Tone Arm registers density
of masses, pictures, etc. in the pc's mind."__________

24. Study: Section "TA Action" (to "TA Assessment")_________

25. Demo: "A case that has an unmoving
TA is not making progress. A case
that has a moving TA is making progress"________

26. Study: Section "TA Assessment" (to "The Sensitivity Knob")_________

27. Demo: Different sizes of TA
Blowdowns and which one you would pick first.______

28. Study: Section "The Sensitivity Knob" (to "The Needle")_________

29. Demo: With the Meter turned on set it
to lowest Sensitivity; work the TA.
Now set it to highest Sensitivity and
work TA. Notice the difference in needle response.______

30. Study: Section "The Needle"
(to "Reads and the Reactive Mind)_________

(Demos are covered under "Basic Definitions, Metering" below).

31. Study: Section "Reads and the Reactive
Mind (to "Meter Drills and Different Meters")_________

32. Demo: Why the Reactive Mind gives an Instant Read________

33. Demo: "If the pc knows all about a
subject it wouldn't react on the Meter.
What is wrong with the pc is not
known to him. That's why you never run
what the pc says. You run what the Meter says."___________

34. Demo: "These are the facts" 1-7
a) #1_______
b) #2_______
c) #3_______
d) #4_______
e) #5_______
f) #6_______
g) #7_______

35. Study: Section "Meter Drills and Different
Meters" and "Meter Drill Coaching" (to "Basic Definitions" )_________

36. Demo: What the comm cycle and TR's has to do with Meter response________

37. Study: Section "Basic Definitions, Metering" (first table)_______

Demo: Do the demos for each definition as you go along. If possible, show it on the Meter by pointing or reproducing it. Otherwise use demo kit.

a) Stuck Needle______
b) Null Needle_______

II. METER DRILLS

Do each drill to a pass following coaching rules of Auditor TR's Course and the section  Meter Coaching and other rules that apply.
EM 25, Track Dating, is not done by students doing the course for Level Zero. EM 25 isn't used before Level 4 Pro and need not be done until then. The theory should be read here, however.
